Adopt a 1%er Pen Pal and help OccupyTheBoardRoom

Wall Street has crashed our economy and they and their 1% allies and cronies have left the 99% with the bill. Despite the growing voice of people standing up and fighting back, they still think they can ignore us. But no longer. We're setting up pen pals with the 1% so they can hear exactly what we think about how their greed has triumphed over our need. Write your message to the 1% and we'll send it to Wall Street bankers and post it to a public blog.

It's our moment. Seize it!

I have been fortunate enough to have a defined pension benefit as I am retired. However because this is not enough to live on I continue to work at what work I can find to pay bills. Just this week I again got copies of how my investments are doing and they went down dramatically. If I did not have health coverage and or got very ill and needed nursing home care I and my loved ones would lose everthing I have worked so long and hard for.

I am fortunate compared to those who are losing their homes, are on unemployment insurance or it has run out, who have no jobs and no prospects of a job, whose children are cramed more and more into larger and larger classes and whose children have gone to school, have huge debts and little prospect of work in their field or a related field where they can make enough to live off of and to pay off their debts.

We need more than the tired old retoric that the only way for main street to prosper is for the very, very wealthy to get more tax breaks, are able to have their money off shore, get salaries and or benefits that are huge compared to ours and hope that maybe someday there will be enough to trickle down to the rest of us.

We fought long and hard to get this curve to shift with the New Deal and subsquent changes by both Republicans and Democrats so that more Americans could benefit from our economic wealth. Now the game is to shift this all back to the “good old days” when my grandmother lived off of what her children could afford to give her which was one room with an outdoor shit house, no running water and no transportation other than what neighbors, friends and others could provide. This trend of more and more wealth going to a smaller and smaller group of people is obsene and not my idea of the American Dream.

Commit yourselves to shifting the paradigm back to a situation where average people could expect a decent life where they could have housing that was decent, where there was some medical care available that was affordable and where their children could expect to improve themselves by education and hard work. These paths are getting smaller and smaller for more and more Americans.

You are part of the problem and need to be part of the solution. The solution is not to just be involved in a few gesters of “good will” but in systemic policicies that will hire more workers at decent salaries with benefits.

Whoever reads this please listen to clear cry of most Americans who see our system broken and want you to be part of a healthy solution that benefits all of us and not just some of us. This is not socialism as you charge it is fairness for all of us. That supposidly is part of a key value I have as an American.

I also expect you not to continue to control our political system and rig it in your favor at our expense. That is happening more and more with the obsense amounts of weath you have under your control.

This is suppose to be a country of the people, by the people and for the people. This is currently not our reality. Be a true American and help fix it for all of us.

Money is dying. And you are afraid. I understand, but the only way that this thing, which for the moment is called OWS, will stop is if things change. You may believe that it can “be stopped” with violence and detentions applied by the police and the armies, but what will really happen is that you, the 1% , will eventually become the .01%. Then you will be 1.) The hated, and, finally… 2.) The hunted…You are inadvertently planning for your own destruction. The death of this system is as inevitable as was the death of divine-right monarchy…If not by the overwhelming numbers of angry, hungry, and hurt people, then by the people with guns…police and armies… Guns that you pay for now. Your police forces and armies will eventually turn and point those guns at you, as soon as a few of them get angry, hungry or hurt. Capitalism, particularly this current flavor of anonymous, Corporate plunder must die, as did feudalism, as did theocracy(God willing…) and as did Communism. Let it die and join us as we move into the next phase of enlightened, human behavior. Money is dying. Don’t hang on and be the cause for all the pain, bloodshed, anger, hatred, and evil that accompanies this greed…this fear is yours. Overcome it… We are one. There is nothing to fear.

My husband and I are both retired and can still count on social security and (diminishing) savings. We’re OK but we’re speaking our for our children with their college debts and, especially, our grandchildren: Will there be good-paying jobs for them? That is why we will continue to join the 99% of indignant citizens who are daring to speak truth to power! So open up your eyes, unplug your ears and listen!

Because of the reckless greed of the mortgage industry, the value of my retirement savings has fallen 30%, and the value of my house has been significantly reduced. Because the banking and investment industries lobbied for less regulation, and for regulators to be lenient, I personally know three hard working and prudent people who lost almost their entire retirement savings to criminal fraud by, at the time, well respected financiers, and several not for profit organizations that I work with have had their funds for helping people in need seriously reduced directly by such fraud, and indirectly as the result of the collapse of the financial markets because of the extreme malfeasance of the mortgage industry.

I’m angry that ignorant , intentionally misinformed people blame the poor for the country’s problems, resenting welfare benefits, immigrants and affirmative action rather than corporate greed.

There are many wonderful wealthy people but I have heard a shocking lack of compassion and empathy in some I have known who also happen to be religious and conservative

We are a retired couple who are watching our savings disappear due to the greed of Wall Street. We worked hard and saved to be able to retire before we got too old. Pay your fair share of taxes and give the rest of us the democracy we used to have.

We, the American 99 %, have had enough! We will no longer be silent. We will no longer be abused by the 1 %. Stop what you are doing now. You are destroying out country and it is going to affect you too.

I am saddened by the disparity of wealth and privilege in our country today. And I feel incensed by the sense of entitlement and arrogance that many of our wealthiest citizens display. We need change in the way work is rewarded and value is measured.

Greetings. No thanks for crashing the economy, making people choose between health care and food. Karma is coming.

Like so many others, the falling value of our home as CEOs and

Wall Street and Bank Executives make millions is hard to swallow. When are they going to start paying for their actions that wreaked havoc with the economy and so many people’s lives?

It is high time for some equality. I am sick of bailing you out and than you keep raking in the profits . How can you go broke and still pay out the highest bonuses ? Shame on you !

The US is a WE country not a ME country! What kind of future do we want? Do we want to become Somalia? or something better?

I know your main concern is profits: No love of country, because you are helping to destroy the very government that gave you the opportunities you have; no concern for your fellow Americans, because you ignore their cry for fairness; no sense of dignity, because you have no shame; above all you have no respect of the people, because they have removed the mask and revealed your treachery to the profession you have dishonored and continue to do so.

I lost my $50000 job 3 years ago and have made little more than minimum wage since then. I have no real hope of getting anything similar since I am 62 years old and no one wants to hire someone this old. I blame the banks and wall street for the dimise of the construction industry which I worked with no real good outlook for the future.

You sold the very people out that made it possible for you to be stupidly wealthy. Isn’t rich good enough. Filthy rich seems to be your goal and you have sold your soul to attain it.

Go down and talk to the people on the street. Did you know there is a city in America with 71% of the homes in foreclosure? How many families lost their home, their jobs, how has public education suffered.?

When you starve the people from whom you make your living, you will eventually starve yourself. We are all in this boat together.

I am for throwing the greedy out to sea.

P.S. I am a retired self employed individual, as were my parents. We were all very successful, but NOT greedy and we never minded paying our taxes (our dues for living in the USA).

My 39 year old son has lost his job after 11 years and of course his health insurance. He has constant pain from pancreatitis and pancreatic pseudocysts. He has been hospitalized twice since losing his job and now owes $60K in hospital bills. He only has unemployment insurance to live on and I know you people are doing all you can to see he loses that as soon as possible. I live on social security and cannot help him much. Alan Grayson was right in saying that your healthcare plan is that we should not get sick, and if we did, we should die quickly. That is GOP, corporate finance, pharmaceutical, and healthcare insurers vision of American. Member of my whole family have served in every war for this country since WWI. All the while, you all have been socializing the profit and privatizing the debt and sucking at the teat of your owners instead of caring for the American people. With few exceptions your children have no been the cannon fodder you used for your war profiteering. Out with you bums; you should all be in your for-profit prisons.. We will #OccupyEverywhere

It’s time for the Banks to pay for the mistakes they make that pushed the world into the meltdown of 2008 !! When will they truly get penalized and justice be done for the 99% of us that suffered as a result of their greed.

I lost my job in 2009, and was out of work for one year. Now I have a job making 20% less than I had before, with mounting debt, and a home that is worth 40% less than when I bought it in 2006. Have you no heart? Do you not care about what the middle class in this country is going through?

Sooner or later, your lawlessness and disrespect for the planet and its people are going to be standing at your door, demanding an ACCOUNTING. You will HAVE to pay then, and much more than you would have IF only you had had some respect for others and the humility to know that NO ONE deserves to have more than their fair share.
