ABOUT 

Living United For Change in Arizona (LUCHA) is seeking full-time field organizers for issue based civic engagement campaigns that aim to engage communities in the expansion of democracy. For years, Arizona has limited the voices included in our election processes and avenues that create policy. Democracy is beyond voting; imagine where all voices are included regardless of status, age, and a criminal background to create systemic change. The Democracy Organizer is responsible for politicizing and uplifting the importance of civic engagement to create solutions occurring in our schools, neighborhoods, and state by engaging everyday directly impacted people.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

This is a full-time position that requires building people power by building teams of people to advance the expansion of democracy and create new ways of voting by developing and overseeing plans to move targets that advance policies in our schools, neighborhoods and state to solve ongoing issues. In addition, this position will defend democracy at all cost and fight towards democracy that is for the people and not determined by wealthy corporations and their funding.


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the Democracy Director to implement program strategy and local wins 

  • Build 4-5 teams of volunteers to move issue based civic engagement campaigns (expansion of voting; participatory budgeting, democracy political education)

  • Recruit new volunteers in the community, schools, events, neighborhoods and call to follow up

  • Coordinate phonebanks and canvassing for quarterly metric goals (membership, vrs, supporters, leaders developed ect)

  • Maintain an accurate database volunteer involvement and clear next steps

  • Voter Registration (register new voters to expand the new american majority)

  • Conduct one to ones new volunteers and partners 

  • Host democracy events and assemblies to engage people 

  • Submit weekly work plans and upload data 

  • Host weekly or biweekly team meetings, facilitate group spaces/ presentations

  • Assist organizations events to add capacity or support with strategies for building alliances for overall LICHA/ACE goals, including organizational electoral work and issue based campaigns 

  • Train and mentor team leaders 

  • Grow organizational base and activate community

  • Engage in policy analysis and legislative tracking on democracy attacks


QUALIFICATIONS:
We are seeking candidates with excellent relationship-building skills, who are outcome-driven, with strong and diverse issue-advocacy skills. Ideal candidates should have demonstrated experience in the following:

  • A commitment to social and racial justice issues

  • Understanding challenges facing the New American Majority (Youth, People of Color and women)

  • Solutions oriented and willing to adapt and be a risk taker 

  • Data driven, understanding and use of research to inform work

  • Comfort with the implementation of a range of organizing strategies and tactics including phone banking, canvassing and tabling

  • Excellent communication skill and ability to work well with diverse groups and populations

  • Experience developing and overseeing field plans to move targets, and great attention to detail for program evaluation and deliverables tracking

  • Lead strategic direction of issue campaign

  • Effectively build and lead a team, establish deep relationships with grassroots leaders

  • Strong facilitation and training skills.

  • Driver’s license and and reliable transportation

  • Knowledge of key issues that our organization currently works on, such as poverty, criminal justice reform, jobs, economic justice, immigration and/or other issues.

  • Capacity and willingness to work long, flexible hours and to travel extensively (including weekends).

  • Demonstrated ability to conceive and execute creative, breakthrough strategic initiatives to achieve goals.
